Hey friends! It’s official…I’ve been living in Georgia for over a week! I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you guys a little about my new life and all the things I’ve been doing! These past 9 days have been intense, uncomfortable, and crazy, but also so so GOOD. I have been living out of a tent, peeing in portapotties, hand-washing my clothes, and taking freezing cold bucket showers (among so many other things haha). Getting used to this new lifestyle was, as you may expect, difficult. I remember feeling completely and totally overwhelmed on the first day. I stepped off the shuttle into the muggy, humid Georgia air onto the Adventures in Missions campus. After that, everything happened SO fast. I got registered, met my team and squad leaders, was shown to my campsite and was told to start setting up my tent. Unpacking, it was hot and miserable; I was sweating through all of my clothes. I remember thinking, “what did I get myself into?” Now I can see that I got myself into the BEST thing ever. After that initial shock, a period of adjusting began (which I’m still in!). I’ve tried to settle into rhythms when I’m able to, and truly am beginning to learn how to rely on the Lord as my comfort in a place where I am far from comfort. I see Him in the little things, whether it’s in the pink, fluffy morning clouds in the sky, or in the warm words/hugs from the new friends He’s given me. This time of discomfort is definitely not just restricted to the physical realm. The Lord is really pushing, stretching, and convicting me in so many areas. I’m working on giving him things like my pride and expectations so that he can have the space and freedom to work in my heart. I also am learning how to be vulnerable, give affirmative and constructive feedback, and intentionally love and honor the squad He’s surrounded me with. I wanted to give you a clear, practical image of what I do in a day so without further ado here it is!
[A typical weekday]
6:30 AM: Wake up, get dressed, wash face + brush teeth!
7:00 AM: Time by myself with the Lord! I normally do devos in the covered area where we eat, it’s called the Pavilion
8:00 AM: Breakfast with the squad + we turn in our phones to our leaders
9:00 AM: Whole squad devos
10:00 AM: Worship and/or a session! In sessions we learn about different topics such as feedback, vulnerability, honor, diving into the Word, and the cost of discipleship
12:30 PM: Lunch with the squad
1:30 PM: Rotations. These could be cleaning, showers, exercise, or laundry depending on the day! When we’re done with our tasks we have free time…during this time, I might work on my computer, talk with squadmates, take a nap, or play volleyball!
5:30 PM: Dinner with the squad
6:30 PM: Team time! My team has five awesome girls and one awesome leader! Each team time has a different theme which determines what we do. Some themes we’ve had recently: feedback, debrief, bible project, and fun! Below is a picture of my team 🙂
7:30 PM: We get our phones back and have free time for the rest of the night! During this time, I’ve been playing spikeball a lot, having fellowship with squadmates, facetiming/calling family, or taking a shower.
9:45 PM: Get ready for bed – wash face + brush teeth!
10 PM: Lights out (means we have to be in our tents). I’ll normally get in my tent and read, organize my stuff, or work on my computer a little before I go to sleep. My tent has honestly become such a nice, homey, comforting space for me – thanks Jesus!
Thanks for keeping up with my crazy journey! And thank you to everyone who has been supporting me in prayer and finances…I really would NOT be here without you. I can’t wait to keep you updated on everything God is doing here!
God bless! Enjoy the pictures below 🙂
My sweet team!
Welcome to my crib 🙂
The sky one morning!
Laundry day!
Coffee + the Pavilion
Bucket shower life. You fill up your bucket with a hose, then you use the lil pitcher! Kinda cold, but feels greaaat after sweating 24/7 in the GA heat.
Dear Emma, thank you for sharing a ‘day in your life’ at the World Race camp. It totally brought back my memories of a Teen Bible Camp in the Sierra Mnts at Lake Almanor. Getting up so early, cold showers, personal devotions and Bible study. But, your experience with your small group and training will teach you what you need to keep you strong throughout the rest of your journey. We love and will be praying for you!

So glad to read about your day, Em. Glad you are getting used to cold showers. That will come in handy in life!!!! May God keep His hand on you for protection and guidance. I have been and will keep praying for you.

You are going through sooo… much training. It’s down to the basics of survival which will make you rich in life. It sounds like fun to me. The Lord has so much for you. Persevere and enjoy the presence of the Lord. I miss you even though I know you’re in good hands.
With Love , Granddad
Wow, you really embraced the 180 in lifestyle and have learned to enjoy the life with limited distractions, surrounded by good friends. You’ve put your trust in the Lord as He takes you through some stretching and begins to “work on [your] heart”
