Hey God, what word do you have for me this year?” I asked just a couple days ago.

The word He gave me last year was “purging”. A harsh word for sure, but one that implied a season of refinement. It has most definitely been a theme of this year, and I have no doubt 2021 will have just as much refinement.

This year, I popped the question in hopes that the Lord might give me something a little more hopeful. And boy, He did not disappoint.

Immediately, I heard the word discovery. But, as am prone to do, I questioned if this word was actually from the Lord.

In my quiet time yesterday, He completely confirmed this word TWICE. The first time was while I was journaling, and the second time was when I reached for my coffee and the mug literally read discovery. So, I guess that’s my word for 2021!

I thought having one word for a whole year would be restricting, but it actually provides a necessary focus that surrounds the direction I want to go this year. The word discovery implies so much and I want to share it with you. I want to create a space of vulnerability so you, friend, may feel empowered to ask the Lord for your own word (and maybe even share it with others)!

D I S C O V E R:

What does it mean for me in 2021?

  1. Seeing the Lord and the world He’s created with childlike faith, wonder, and awe. Being excited about doing life with Him and walking with Him! Falling in love with Him more and more every day. Never being okay with complacency or stagnancy. Running after him like a little kid runs to their dad and pursuing Him with reckless abandon. Pressing in. Trusting Him like a child. Cultivating humility, genuinity, selflessness, and a servant's heart.

  2. Discovering more about the people He’s placed around me. Choosing in, being intentional, and seeking out.

  3. Discovering myself! Discovering my true self in Him and losing what I think defines me in the world. Solidifying opinions about the world around me and speaking up about those rather than sitting on the outskirts of conversations. Discovering more of my calling and purpose!

  4. Tasting and seeing! When the Lord gave me the word discover I felt Him saying that there would be so many ways in which I partake of His goodness! That He will make Himself evident in very tangible ways as I press in and discover! WOW isn't that hopeful?! I know refinement will continue into this year and I’m thankful for that but this is something super bright to look forward to!

So there’s me unpacking what discovery means for me this year! And I’m thankful you get to read this, come alongside me, and see how that unfolds! Exciting stuff!

I have one question for you:

What are you speaking over 2021?

Feel free to email me or let me know in the comments! I would love to hear what you have to say!

PS: I snapped a picture of my mug the morning I read “discovery”. Kinda fun. Here it is:
